Message A turbocharger is a power recovery turbine connected to a centrifugal air compressor. The turine converts pressure energy into work which turns the air compressor. Work can of course be measured in horsepower (or watts if you are in the metric system). If you know the air inlet pressure and temperature and the air outlet pressure, you can calculate the HP required by the compressor.
